About the Event
It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to the Birth Centenary Celebrations of Sangita Kalarathna Prof. H. V. Krishnamurthy, one of Karnataka's distinguished violin maestros, whose life was dedicated to the preservation, performance, and propagation of Indian classical music.
Born on 13 October 1926 in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, Prof. H. V. Krishnamurthy belonged to a rich musical lineage. His maternal uncle, Sri L. S. Narayanaswami Bhagavatar, a renowned vocalist and violinist, was a distinguished disciple of Kanchipuram Sri Naina Pillai. Bhagavatar's younger brother, Ganakala Bhushana Sri L. S. Seshagiri Rao, was an accomplished percussionist and violinist, further enriching the family's musical heritage.
Among our Guru's cherished aspirations was to bring together violinists from across the country on a single platform—to celebrate their shared heritage and collective contribution to Indian classical music. Though he was unable to realise this vision during his lifetime, we, his students, have come together to fulfil that dream in our humble way through these centenary celebrations.
The central theme of this commemorative year is:
"Strings Across Traditions"; Celebrating the Violin's Remarkable Journey in Indian Classical Music
Honouring the Legacy • Celebrating the Present • Inspiring the Future
This celebration pays tribute to the pioneers, maestros, and contemporary torchbearers whose vision, dedication, and artistry transformed the violin from a Western instrument into one of the most expressive voices of Indian classical music. Today, the violin stands as a symbol of artistic excellence, seamlessly bridging tradition and innovation, heritage and creativity.
