Hosahalli K Venkatram

Hosahalli Venkatram is a widely known name. He comes from the village Hosahalli, which is in Shivamogga district and is very well known as Karntaka’s cultural hub. Hailing from a family of musicians, he underwent his training under the very well-known and renowned violinist Padmabhusan Sri. Lalgudi G Jayaraman following the gurukula tradition which was a very rare opportunity. His very first concert was in the year 1975 after having practiced for 6 years under his guru. He enthralled audiences right from his 1st concert and the other vidwans hailed him as a worthy student of a great guru ready to continue the rich lineage. He has performed across the country on several prestigious platforms along with several great musicians like Kadari Gopalnath, R K Shrikantan, R K Padmanabha, Dr. Vidyabhusana and many others. Sri Hosahalli Venkatram was a humble and simple soul who performed in small villages and on big platforms with the same sincerity , dedication and devotion. He also upheld the rich legacy of Indian traditional music across the world and was a special invitee to concerts in Russia, UAE and London. He was also a renowned organizer and created several platforms for musicians, particularly budding talents to showcase and grow. As the head of Nada Sudha and Sankethi sabha, he introduced an annual state competition for young budding musicians and helped give direction to their journey in music. As a member of CCRT, he has served the cause of music immensely. As a member of expert committees, he has been giving invaluable guidance to several organizations. With the single focus of continuing the rich legacy of his guru Sri. Lalgudi Jayaraman , he has been giving free classes to several deserving students, conducting workshops, inviting several experts and helped in keeping the tradition alive. It is a matter of pride that these events are being conducted even today. Even at this young age of 78 years, he has been travelling continuously to Banglore, Udupi, Belagavi and imparting his knowledge. His rich experience has helped today’s musicians enormously. As a senior artist of Aakaashavaani and Dooradarshan, he has been constantly requested to perform. Some of the organizations that have feted him are Karnataka gaana Kala Parishad, Gayana samaja, D Subbaramaiya fine arts trust, JSS sangeetha sabha trust and many more. Several awards have come his way, a small subset of that would be Acharya Ratna from TVG Foundatin,Cheenai, Naada Siri, Sangeeta Kala Tapasavi, Kala Deepti, Naatyashree, Lalitha Kala Suma and many more. Along with his expertise in music, Shri. Venktram has also been awarded a MA in Sanskrit. It would be prudent to say here that, Sri Hosahalli Venkatram, has truly inspired not just people from Karnataka but people from across the country
