Biography

Dr. L. Subramaniam was born into the musical family of Prof. V. Lakshminarayana and V. Seethalakshmi. He performed as a child, won national recognition through All India Radio competition, and inherited a rigorous Carnatic violin foundation from his father.

Alongside Carnatic music, Subramaniam studied medicine and Western classical music, later developing a career that moved between solo Carnatic concerts, orchestral writing, film scores, and collaborations with leading musicians across genres.

His collaborations include figures from Indian classical, Western classical, jazz, and popular music. He has composed for films and ballets, written major orchestral works, and founded the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival.

His honours include Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and Padma Vibhushan in 2025.
