Biography

Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi was born in Chennai in 1966 to violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. She began training under her grandfather Lalgudi Gopala Iyer and later under her father, inheriting the family lineage connected to Tyagaraja.

She made her performance debut in 1979 and has toured internationally as a violinist. Her style reflects the vocal, gayaki-based elegance associated with the Lalgudi school.

Vijayalakshmi has often performed duets with her brother G. J. R. Krishnan and was chosen for the Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi award in 2022.
