Biography
Kalaimaamani Smt RADHA NARAYANAN was an eminent Indian Carnatic Classical Music VIOLINIST. Smt Radha Narayanan was a disciple of Trivandrum Harihara Iyer and Dwaram Venkataswami Naidu. She was the mother and Guru of her daughter Smt Meera Sivaramakrishnan, a front ranking violinist, and also Guru of her grandson Kaushik Sivaramakrishnan. A gold medallist in MA Music from the University of Madras Smt Radha travelled the length and breadth of India, from Bellarey, to Guntakal, to Orissa, accompanying the likes of Dr S Ramanathan, Sri Balamurali Krishna, Shri T R Subramanian, Flute Mali,Smt D.K. Pattammal, Sikkil Sisters, Bombay Sisters, Madurai Shri T N Seshagopalan, to name a few, where the packed audience would stay on till late into the night to enjoy the musical feast. On one such occasion where Radha was accompanying Flute Mali and matching every gimmick of his, not a very easy task on the stringed instrument, and at one stage, the master himself put down his instrument to applaud the undaunted violinist Radha Narayan who, with a gentle smile seemed to be able to playfully counter every bamboo note with her melodious strings. Such was the wizardry of Smt Radha Narayanan. Talent of course is in ones blood, but without sweat, that will be to no avail. Her tireless practice, in the summer months when her family came down to Chennai, when their home.would be the 'practice centre', till she shifted to Chennai. That was a time when Smt Radha Narayanan was a permanent fixture at all the prestigious venues, from the Music Academy, to the Sri Krishna Gana Sabha , and the Indian Fine Arts.
