T. Rukmini

T. Rukmini was born in Bangalore on November 27, 1936 and trained in violin under R. R. Keshavamurthy, whose disciplined Bangalore school shaped her early technique.

She began appearing on stage as a teenager and grew into a major accompanist and soloist over a career that extended from the 1950s into the twenty-first century.

Rukmini was recognised with honours including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Sangita Kalanidhi, and her career remains important in the history of women violinists in Carnatic music.
