Biography
V. S. Narasimhan was born in Mysore in 1943 and began learning Carnatic music from his father, the violinist Gottuvadyam Srinivasa Iyengar.
He also studied western classical music, entered Tamil cinema as a violinist, and later worked as a composer in South Indian films.
In 1993, he founded the Madras String Quartet, an important vehicle for presenting Carnatic compositions and ideas through western string quartet instrumentation.
