Biography
Varahoor Muthuswami Iyer was born in September 1902 in Madras to Varahur Swamy Bhagavatar and Janaki Ammal. His gurus were his father Varahur Swamy Bhagavatar and later Sangita Kalanidhi Karur Chinnaswami Iyer.
His shishya parampara includes Dwaram Mangathayaru, Jilakavathi of Malaysia, and Dhanadevi of Sri Lanka. He received an award from the Madras Music Academy in 1962 for best violin accompaniment.
He also received the Kalasigamani from the Government of Tamil Nadu on March 22, 1968.
He was a stock accompanist for many stalwarts of the 1930 to 1950 period and was often partnered with Venu Naicker on mridangam. He also served as Professor of Violin at the Central Music College, Madras.
