Biography
Pandit Damodar Keshav Datar, known as D. K. Datar, was born in Kurundwad in Maharashtra and trained first with Pandit Vighneshwar Shastri.
He later studied with D. V. Paluskar and shaped his violin playing around the vocal-dominated khayal idiom of the Gwalior gharana. His repertoire also included bhajan, thumri, and natya sangeet.
Datar toured internationally, worked with the Films Division of India, and received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Padma Shri. Milind Raikar is among the violinists connected to his musical lineage.
