Biography
Kumaresh Rajagopalan was born in Kanpur in 1967. He learnt music from his father T. S. Rajagopalan and began performing as a child, growing into a concert partnership with his elder brother Ganesh Rajagopalan.
With Ganesh Rajagopalan, he became known as part of Ganesh and Kumaresh, also called the Violin Brothers or Fiddling Monks. Their performances combine Carnatic classicism, original works, and extended raga-tala explorations through the Raga Pravaham idea.
Kumaresh Rajagopalan has toured widely in India and abroad, composed for films and dance, and received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award with Ganesh Rajagopalan in 2018 for Carnatic instrumental music on violin.
