Kalavedi, cultivating public taste for classical music Dr. T.T. Srinivasan hails from a family of traditional and reputed musicians. He is the son of renowned violinist Sri T.S. Tatachar and Smt. Padma Tatachar. Dr. T.T.S. was born in Mysore on Wednesday, the 12th of May, 1948. Born in the lineage of the saint musician Thyagaraja, Dr. T.T. Srinivasan inherited the essence of Carnatic music from his versatile father, Sri T.S. Tatachar, who trained him meticulously. Sri T.S. Tatachar served on the staff of All India Radio, Madras, Mysore and Bangalore for nearly 37 years, and was honoured with several titles and distinctions. His grandfather, Sri T. Srinivasachar, was also a violinist. Sri T. Srinivasachar's uncle, Sri T. Sheshachar, was likewise a violinist. His forefathers were scholars of Sanskrit, Vedas and music, and were themselves accomplished violinists. He hails from a family in which two forefathers adorned the pontifical seat of the Parakala Mutt. They are: 1. Ghantavatara Brahmatantra Parakala Swamy — regarded as a reincarnation of Vedantha Desika, and hence bestowed with the title “Ghantavatara.” 2. Sri Lakshmi Hayavadana Paduka Sevaka Srinivasa Brahmatantra Parakala Swamy — (Thadamari Swamy, 28th in the pontifical line) of the Parakala Mutt in Mysore city, one of the most ancient Srivaishnava religious institutions. Dr. T.T.S. received systematic training from childhood in the traditional manner from his father, Sri T.S. Tatachar, and was thus able to assimilate the finer nuances of the instrument at a very early age. T.T.S. gave his first concert at the age of 15, in the company of his father. Since then, he has provided violin accompaniment to almost all the leading South Indian musicians — to mention only a few: Smt. D.K. Pattammal, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Dr. M.L.
